The Satechi 7-Port USB Charging Station Dock charges seven devices at once and holds them in place while they juice up.

Anyone who lives in a crowded household needs a charging station with a lot of ports, and the Satechi 7-Port USB Charging Station Dock fits the bill perfectly.

This charging station has been our top pick for a while, but Satechi has released an updated version with two USB-C ports, which is what we’re recommending here. You get two USB-C ports rated at 5V/3A, two USB-A ports rated at 5V/2.4A, and three USB-A ports that charge at the standard 1A. Each port has surge protection, so you don’t have to worry about your device getting fried by too much electricity.

The cables are not included, contrary to what you see in the product images on Amazon, so you have to buy your own cables. We recommend buying short 6-inch cords, so you don’t have to wrap up the excess cordage. You should always get Apple MFI certified lightning cables and safe USB- C and micro USB cables (<— click on the links to get the best ones). Losing an outlet to a USB charging station can be annoying, so the Aukey Wall Charger offers two outlets and four USB-A ports.

This clever charging station turns a single outlet into two and provides four USB-A ports, helping you to make the most of limited outlets. The USB-A charging ports can deliver up to 30W in total.

Measuring just 3.5 by 1.2 by 2.2 inches, this black, plastic block plugs straight into the wall. The glossy section bears the Aukey logo and there’s a tiny LED to indicate that it’s plugged in and ready to rock.

Outlets are always in short supply, so the fact that this transforms a single outlet into two, but also has four USB-A ports at the bottom, makes it an attractive option. The USB-A ports are rated at 2.4A and there’s a total cap of 6A or 30W. The ports use Aukey’s AIPower technology to determine the right charge for the mobile device that’s plugged in, but there’s no support for most fast charging standards.

If you’re seeking something to serve your nightstand, this could be perfect, as you can plug in a lamp and multiple phones or tablets. If you charge overnight, the lower charging speeds won’t bother you. It’s also very cheap and relatively unobtrusive. I’ve been using the UK version and it’s great, though there’s only room for a single outlet. User reviews on the US version are very positive.

Anyone who has a phone with wireless charging (like the new iPhones and many Android phones) will love this charging station from Nomad. The black, circular puck has a wireless charging pad on top with a maximum output of 7.5W. Underneath, you’ll find three USB-A ports and one USB-C port for charging up any other devices you have in your home.

I use this charging station in my home to charge my iPhone X wirelessly every day. When I need to charge it up a bit more quickly, I plug it into the lightning cable I’ve plugged into one of the USB ports. I also charge my Kindle and wireless headphones with a couple of Micro USB cables. Finally, I have a USB-C cable set up for new Android devices. It fits my needs perfectly.

The entire charging station has a maximum output of 30W to charge five devices at once — four with wires and one without. The USB-C port has a high-speed 3A output, two of the USB-A ports have a 1A output, and one USB-A port has a higher 2.1A output.

Essentially, that means devices that charge with the USB-C cable will charge the fastest, the one 2.1A USB-A port will charge the next fastest, and the other two USB-A ports will charge the slowest. Because of this, you’ll want to plug your largest device (your phone or tablet) into the fastest charging port available and your smallest devices (AirPods, Bluetooth headphones, etc.) into the slower ones.

Subtle LED lights on the top of the puck indicate the charging status of your devices. Orange lights mean your devices are still charging, while a soft white light means they’re all juiced up.

If you have Android phones in your house, chances are many of them have Quick Charge technology that allows them to juice up faster. The Anker Quick Charge 3.0 63W 5-Port USB Wall Charger will charge your devices at the fastest rate possible, so you can get moving more quickly.

You simply plug the power source into the wall, pop in your charging cables, and plug in up to five devices at a time to charge. The hub is a simple rectangle that looks like a small battery pack. It may not be the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen, but it gets the job done and takes up very little space.

Unless you want to have lots of long cords around, we recommend getting shorter cables that are between 6-inches and 1-foot in length.

If you have a lot of devices in your home, you need a charging station with lots of USB ports. However, having all those devices charging from one hub can get messy. Sometimes, you wish your cords were more separate from one another. The Vogek 6-Port USB Charger Desktop Charging Station does just that.

Its circular design keeps your cables and devices away from each other, so nothing tangles. However, you’ll want to get short cables between 6-inches and 1-foot in length so the charger and your devices don’t take up so much space. Since the charging station is circular, the cords stick out all around the circle just like sun rays in a kid’s drawing of the sun.

Each port can charge at up to 2.4A, but if you’re charging more than two devices at once, the speed may slow down because you only get 6A simultaneously. It doesn’t support Quick Charge, either, but that’s to be expected for a cheaper charging station. The silicon grip on the bottom means it won’t slide around you a desk, counter, or table.

You will need to buy your own cables, though. Most of the Amazon reviews are positive, and those who are unhappy with it mainly complain that it charges slowly or doesn’t work. Make sure that you use high-quality cables to get the best charging speeds. You can also contact the seller if you have a problem. The best charging station with USB-C for laptops

This is another plastic block that offers five ports to charge multiple devices, but what sets this charging station apart is the fact that one of the ports is USB-C and supports Power Delivery to offer up to 45W. With a total output of 60W, you can charge four phones and a laptop simultaneously.

This charging station comes in black or white, and it’s impressively compact, measuring just 3.54 by 2.32 by 0.98 inches. The 5-foot power cord plugs directly into the wall and a tiny green LED lights up to let you know it’s powered up.

At the top there’s a USB-C port that can deliver up 45W through the Power Delivery standard. That’s enough to charge up a USB-C laptop, but it can also charge a Pixel or iPhone at top speed. There are also four USB-A ports, rated at 2.4A each, with RAVPower’s iSmart technology determining the optimum charge for the connected device.

Compact enough to be a handy companion for trips abroad, this has found a permanent home in our lounge, where it powers a multiple PS4 gamepad charger, a wireless charging pad, and has Lightning, USB-C, and Micro USB cables plugged into it to cater for any other device seeking a top up. While it can power a USB-C laptop, like a smaller MacBook, it will only slow charge larger, more power-hungry devices like the Dell XPS 15.

It can get a little warm with multiple devices plugged in, but it does have overcharge, short-circuit, over-voltage, and overheating protection. Sadly, because there’s no support for the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) standard, this can’t charge something like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus at full 45W speed. The Belkin PowerHouse Charge Dock for Apple Watch and iPhone sat on my nightstand for several months while I was using an iPhone and Apple Watch every day. It looked gorgeous and got the job done without cluttering up my bedroom with wires and ugly chargers.

If you have an iPhone and an Apple Watch, this is the dock you want. It’s less pricey than most dual iPhone and Apple Watch docks, but it has a lightning connector and an Apple Watch charging disc built into the design so you don’t have any extra wires. you simply plug the Belkin dock in and pop your phone and watch in the dock to charge both up simultaneously.

The only real downside to the dock is that you can only charge one iPhone and Apple Watch at a time, so if the rest of your family wants to juice up, they’ll have to go elsewhere. It’s also expensive in comparison with the other charging stations in our guide, but that’s the price you pay for good looks and concealed cords. — Malarie Gokey

If you frequently fly abroad for work or pleasure, then you should consider the Zendure Passport travel charger. This global travel adapter works with outlets in more than 200 countries and it also provides four charging ports for mobile devices that can deliver a total of 30W.

It’s quite a chunky adapter, measuring 2.24 by 2.8 by 2.5 inches, and it comes in black or white. There’s a blue LED on the bottom that lights up when it’s plugged in, and Zendure’s signature ribbing runs around the outside.

This charger plugs directly into the wall and has four sliders on the side that enable you to choose the correct plug for the EU, US, UK, or Australia. These four plug types will fit the outlets in most places you’re likely to visit. You can also plug into the other side using devices from any of these countries. On the bottom, you’ll find a USB-C port, marked in blue, and three USB-A ports. The USB-C port supports the Power Delivery standard and offers up to 30W. The USB-A ports are rated at 5V/2.4A for 12W each. The AC output is 6A (600W at 100V or 1,500W at 250V).

This travel adapter has accompanied me on every trip I’ve taken for the last couple of years and it has served me well in the US, the UK, and across Europe. Being able to charge two phones, a smartwatch, a tablet, and a camera battery from one outlet can be very handy. It has also served my family of four, keeping all our phones charged up, and still offering an outlet for a laptop.

You will need your own charging cables, but you can effectively charge five devices at once with this travel adapter. It is quite bulky, so I’ve occasionally found it’s a tight fit with some outlets. If you have a lot plugged into it the weight can also begin to pull it out of the outlet.

One feature that has proved very handy is the auto-resetting fuse. Fuses inevitably blow occasionally, but this will cut-off automatically for safety, then reset and be usable again, without you having to worry about changing a fuse.

There’s an older version of the Passport that just has four USB-A ports, so make sure you get the newer one with the USB-C port. It comes with a 24-month warranty. — Simon Hill

AUKEY Quick Charge 3.0 6-Port USB Wall Charger: The affordable Aukey 6-Port Desktop Charging Station has two Quick Charge 3.0 ports marked in orange, four green ports rated at 2.4A apiece, comes with a detachable, 4-foot power cable that plugs directly into an outlet, and can deliver a total of 60W. It may be worth choosing over the Anker if you need that extra port, but the boxy design leaves something to be desired.
Anker PowerPort Atom PD 4: This charging station has two USB-C ports that support the Power Delivery standard and two USB-A ports. It can deliver up to 100W. That means you can plug in two laptops and two phones and have all four charge up at once. If you have a new MacBook or Pixelbook and want to charge it alongside your phone, then this could be the ideal charger, but it is expensive.
Vogek 5-Port 50W Charging Station: This doesn’t quite match our top pick from Satechi, as it only has five ports, but it’s a similar design, with slots to hold your devices neatly. One advantage of this charging station is that it comes with a mixture of eight short charging cables, and it’s relatively inexpensive.
Amazon Basics 60W 10-Port Wall Charger: If you need a large capacity, no frills, wall charger, you won’t find anything much bigger, or cheaper, than this charging station from Amazon. It can supply 60W in total to up to 10 devices, but ports are capped at 2.4A each and there’s no support for any fast charging standards.
Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Dock: This is another stylish charging dock for the nightstand that’s designed to accommodate an iPhone and Apple Watch. Instead of plugging in, it wirelessly charges your iPhone, and it has a USB-A port for a third device. The only reason this didn’t make the list is the high price. — Simon Hill

How to choose a charging station

To find the right charging station for you, there are a few questions to ask. There are also certain features that you may want to consider before you buy.

How many devices do you need to charge?

The first thing to work out when you’re shopping for a charging station for your gadgets is how many ports you need. Count up your phones, tablets, smartwatches, and any other devices that need frequent charging. Remember that you’ll also need charging cables for each one.

Not all ports are created equal

As you’ll see when you peruse our guide, many charging stations offer a mix of ports. You might find USB-A and USB-C, and you may also find that some ports are capable of faster charging rates than others. It’s also quite common for charging stations to have some ports that support certain charging standards and others that don’t.

Get the right cables

You can always use the charging cable that came with your device, but if you’re buying new cables, make sure they’re fit for the purpose. Is charging rate important?

For people planning to plug in overnight, there’s little point in paying a premium for fast charging, but if you want to be able to top up quickly, charging rate matters. Check what charging standards your phone or other device supports and look for a charging station that can deliver. There’s USB Power Delivery, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge standard, and a host of other manufacturer-specific charging technologies.

Check the safety features and warranty

You’ll be plugging some of your most prized possessions into your chosen charging station, so it’s important to think about safety. Cheap, uncertified chargers can fail, damage your devices, or even cause a fire. Stick to trusted brands, check the reviews, and look for safeguards covering surges and overheating.
