Pitching coaches are asked to work on every aspect of a big-league hurler, but some view their best abilities as being able to teach and correct.

With the latter in mind, Larry Rothschild tinkered with James Paxton’s setup on the mound this past week in order to help the lefty starter escape a serious funk.

“Trying to get him strong back over the rubber,’’ Rothschild said of the work he has done with Paxton after he was tattooed by the Blue Jays in his last outing. In the Yankees’ 8-7 win on Wednesday, Paxton gave up six runs, eight hits (three homers) and walked four in 4 ¹/₃ innings. “So he goes to the plate stronger.’’

Paxton is 5-3 with a 4.34 ERA in 13 starts and will be looking to improve on his first outing against the Mets, when he gave up six runs and seven hits in 2 ²/₃ innings on June 11.

The Yankees didn’t provide injury updates Monday on Gary Sanchez or Luke Voit.

Sanchez left Sunday’s 12-8 win over the Red Sox following the eighth inning after awkwardly catching a ball that left his left thumb sore. Voit was removed from Saturday night’s 17-13 win with a lower left abdominal problem and didn’t play Sunday.

Sanchez strongly indicated Sunday night he was going for tests on the thumb.

DJ LeMahieu was named AL Player of the Week on Monday.

LeMahieu, who is easily the Yankees’ first-half MVP, batted .625 (15-for-24) with two homers, 10 RBIs and a 1.083 slugging percentage.

LeMahieu enters Tuesday night’s Subway Series game against the Mets at Citi Field riding a 14-game hitting streak. His .345 batting average, 108 hits and .486 (35-for-72) average with runners in scoring position led the AL entering Monday night’s action. He was voted onto the AL team for next week’s All-Star Game at second base.
